Bolbec’s – À L’instar Du Flair (TS Premiere)

Bolbec, the innovative project by childhood friends and multi-instrumentalists Axel Concato and Barth Corbelet, presents their debut album “Victime De L’aube” via Batov Records this Friday. In this album, Axel and Barth played over a dozen different instruments between them, and enlisted the support of the Nostalgia 77 rhythm section to add depth and texture to the album.

Axel Concato and Barth Corbelet have established a solid reputation. Axel has produced breakthrough artists from the underground Parisian scene, including Steeple Remove and Halo Maud, and achieved success with his Pi Ja Ma project. Barth has ventured into recording albums at home and writing songs for notable artists like Hollie Cook, showcasing his versatility and talent.

The duo’s musical journey began in their childhood days in Rouen, France, where they bonded over a shared love for well-crafted songs. Their debut album, “Victime De L’aube,” translates to “Victim of the Dawn” and captures the poignant emotions evoked by the breaking of dawn.

The album showcases Bolbec’s eclectic mix of deep jazz, esoteric soundtracks, electronica, folk, and classical influences, weaving all these diverse styles into a captivating whole that only gets better with each listen.

“À L’instar Du Flair,” a highlight of the album, whisk listeners away on a modal jazz adventure that echoes the vibes of Yusef Lateef. The song starts with a smooth drumming rhythm and a tension-building melody that lasts the first 40 seconds. Then, the sweet, melodious melody resolves the tension with great relaxation. Also, the repetitions of the melody generate a catchy vibe and always maintain the urgency of grabbing the listener’s attention. Bolbec’s daring creative vision and intricate instrumentation make “Victime De L’aube” a very, very fine debut album.
