Album: Jasmine Myra – Rising

‘Rising‘ is the sophomore album from London-based saxophonist, composer and band leader Jasmine Myra. She has surrounded herself with some of the best young talents from the city of Leeds, a city that harbours a bustling, creative, cross-genre music scene. Since she was originally part of this city, it has a profound mark on her musicality and creativity. Her first album, ‘Horizons’, revolved around her experience regarding the pandemic, and her second album, ‘Rising’, picks up the story from there and expands upon it. Rising features the same core of musicians as her debut album with guitarist Ben Haskins, drummer George Hall, pianist Jasper Green, harpist Alice Roberts and bassist Sam Quintana. All these musicians perform with a collective empathy that drives the music on a journey true to Myra’s own interpretation, evident from the title track and songs such as ‘Still Waters’, ‘Knowingness’ and ‘From Embers’. All in all ‘Rising’ is an incredibly soothing, liberating, and refreshing jazz album that is utterly mesmerising.
