Basher unveil video for second single Thanks, Trey

Basher, the New Orleans free jazz ensemble led by Byron Asher, is set to thrill once again with its upcoming album, May Day. Scheduled for release on May 31st via Sinking City Records, this highly anticipated record is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2022’s Doubles.

Basher’s music is a delightful medley that proves challenging to label, as it marries aspects of jazz, free improvisation and art rock dance.

May Day is an incredible collection of six beautiful compositions intertwined with two long-form improvisations. The recently released title track is a tribute to the worker and organised labour but also sounds a little like a mayday signal in its urgency. Check it out here.

The band is stoking up the excitement leading to their album’s launch by dropping a brand-new single, ‘Thanks, Trey.’ This song comes with an accompanying video directed by Noé Cugny.

On Doubles, Basher poses the question “what might a band called Basher sound like?” On May Day, they answer that question. This is what Basher sounds like.
