Wandering In Dreamlike Ecstasy With ‘Nicole’ and ‘Overwhelmed by the Unexplained’ by Nino Gvilia

The artist known as Nino Gvilia is an enchanting tale all in itself. Harkening her arrival with two explosively creative EP’s in the form of Nicole and Overwhelmed by the Unexplained which are set for a vinyl release in March.

The atmospheric beauty of the musical compositions that these EPs contain definitely brings a mystical aura that is guaranteed to enchant listeners throughout the several tracks that Nino has unapologetically conceived from her thought-provoking intellect.

Both projects carry with them the themes of ‘imagination’ and an overall feeling of unsettledness that doesn’t spark discomfort – but rather a sense of unpredictability that is set to catch even the most particular of listeners off-guard.

With this ambience of irregularity and breaking out of the norm, the true beauty and brilliance of Nino Gvilia can be fully appreciated in both Nicole and Overwhelmed by the Unexplained.

Dissecting the human nature and the modern meaning of being an existing homo sapien in this current century, Nino perfectly captures the essence of the unknown and the mystical.

Beckoning listeners into a state of deep self-reflection through her powerfully charged lyrics that are carefully accompanied by delicate harmonies and ominous melodies, the albums are filled to the brim with layers upon layers of musical elements that will definitely keep listeners on edge.

Nicole

Nicole kicks off with a namesake single that immediately transports listeners into a state of tranquillity with its sombre percussion and sustained harmonies that elevate the power of Nino’s surreal vocals.

Flavours of folk can be found on tracks such as ‘Diaphanous’ and ‘Raspberry Hands’, flexing Nino’s complex and intricate approach to composing music in all its glory. ‘Forests, quatrain’ on the other hand shows her vocal range in full display with an enchanting acapella performance.

Finally, the album serenades listeners into a resounding conclusion with a wittily-named final track, ‘Last Trip’, which is filled with feelings of nostalgia and sentimentality.

Overwhelmed by the Unexplained

As for ‘Overwhelmed by the Unexplained’, this EP also carries with it the same vibe as ‘Nicole’. Starting off with the track ‘Anders’, listeners are lulled with a familiar bizarre style of vocals that are accompanied by repetitive arpeggios that build up the atmosphere of the song.

The succeeding song, ‘Dirty is just what has boundaries’, ups the ante when it comes to creativity by meshing together a haunting chorus of voices with Nino’s signature use of recordings in order to come up with a brilliant composition.

Listeners are then transported into a familiar folk and minimalist vibe with songs such as ‘Rain On Paliastomi’ and ‘Those who care’ which retain the unique musical identity of Nino.

Last but not least, ‘Overwhelmed by the Unexplained’ ends with a similarly named single which turns up the dial with a haunting auditory atmosphere that evokes feelings of being on edge – leading the album to its final decrescendo into the abyss.

The two projects from Nino Gvilia — the artist’s name borne out of fiction — are a musical masterpiece. To endow one’s ears with these pieces is akin to wandering in dreamlike ecstasy, beckoning the inner soul to embrace a meditative state — pondering on thoughts of humanity’s role in the universe and the purpose of existing in these modern times.
