Incredibly experimental, Shay Hazan‘s Wusul و​ص​و​ل opens with a gentle trumpet whirr, followed by the seductive charms of the Guimbri and some lively percussive rhythms before other hypnotising instruments join the party. This groovy and adventurous sound world sets the listener up nicely for Hazan’s second solo full-length, which melds the enchanting influences of Gnawa music, spiritual jazz, hip-hop grooves, and electronic production with a rich tapestry of Middle Eastern and African influences.

His exceptional talents encompass bass playing, composing, producing, and leading the Shay Hazan Quintet. His versatile bass playing can be heard on Israeli radio alongside well-known pop stars in eclectic jazz clubs and festivals in Israel and Europe.

We’ve shared Hazan’s music on our various platforms since coming across the quite brilliant ‘Bob Dealer’ in early 2022. Today is a special day, though, because we’re lucky to be able to premiere his next single, ‘Vibe Jadid’ exclusively.

The track, one of the album’s grooviest compositions, kicks off with the unique beat of Krakebs. These big, castanet-like instruments bring the rhythm to Moroccan Gnawa music. Then comes the deep guimbri bassline, paired with a laid-back hip-hop kick drum and clap. It’s a killer combo! The victorious blare of horns echoing the rousing melody is simply stunning, perfectly juxtaposed with the ethereal hum of synths.
