Berlin-based Swedish bassist and producer Petter Eldh returns with a new Koma Saxo album entitled ‘Post Koma’. We first featured Koma Saxo on the site in 2019, and last featured them with their magnificent album, 2022’s Koma Saxo with Sofia Jernberg. It was one of our favourite releases from last year.
Well, they are back, and while their music has evolved, they sound as brilliant as ever. Their music is even more experimental and adventurous, morphing into a holistic vision of present and future jazz, where live instrumentation and repurposed sampling lose their boundaries.

As on the previous album, Eldh is joined on this one by Sofia Jernberg, Jonas Kullhammar, Otis Sandsjö, Mikko Innanen, Maciej Obara and Christian Lillinger.
They’ve given the world a sneak peek of their new album in the shape of ‘Watten Koma’. If you like music that gently eases its way into your ears, but once it’s in, it blows your eardrums with its inventiveness, then you need this in your life. Although I’ve only listened to the album once, it’s all I need to know: it’s a contender for one of the jazz albums of 2023.
