Soundway Records is releasing the debut EP by Pigeon, called Yagana, this Friday.
Pigeon consists of Guinean singer Falle Nioke, Graham Godfrey on drums, Steve Pringle on keys, Tom Dream on guitar, and Josh Ludlow on bass.
The five-piece group emerged from an impromptu jam session in Margate after a pub session. Across the four-track EP, the music effortlessly moves between Afro-disco, grunge, no wave, and jazz, with Nioke singing in different languages.
The Yagana EP is a powerful and emotional release that explores themes of lust, saudade, homesickness, and hope for peace.
This EP is nothing short of astounding. For now, you can listen to the up-tempo disco rhythms of the title track and the epic improvised closing cut ‘War (Jam)’.
