It’s been a while since we last heard from Solapur Road, but the alt-jazz duo finally breaks the silence with a double release.
Solapur Road is an international collaborative project between composer/saxophonists Divya Farias and producer/ saxophonists Alejandro Van Zandt Escobar.
You probably know Escobar as one-third of experimental Afro-electronic outfit Lucked In. The talented artist has been steadily making waves with the trio, and this project with Farias is equally as unique and exciting.
‘Handwash’ and ‘Machine’ showcase the pair’s avant-garde background as angular horn harmonies meet fluid structures, soaring vocals and subterranean sub-bass.
Our pick is ‘Machine’, and we’re delighted to premiere this particular track exclusively. A wonderfully arranged track in which the exquisite melodies of vocalist Pamela Soffer and the driving drum work of Phil McNeal move back-and-forth with the duo’s beautifully lyrical saxophone flourishes.
Recorded in 2017 from a series of jams in Brooklyn and Oakland the new two-tracker comes four years on from their track ‘Continental Lobby’ which featured on the ‘XVI Records Vol III: Islands Unknown’ LP.
It’s a fascinating release that was well worth the wait.
