Three years on from their debut collaborative album ‘Passive Aggressive’, Jonny Nash and Suzanne Kraft make a welcome return with their second full-length album, ‘A Heart So White’.
While their previous project used entirely electronic instruments, the new 9-track album sees the pair using a mechanical drawer organ and Steinway piano to create acoustic instrumentation, and lots of ambient use of space. The duo wrote and recorded the album in Willem Twee Concertzaal, a converted synagogue in Holland.
Opening with ‘The Pearl’ a lengthy, intimate and exciting piece with a gorgeous meandering guitar strums. The melancholic piano chords’ that float across ‘Allegation’ and ‘Guilt of Fear’ are sheer bliss. The title song is astoundingly beautiful with a minimalist soundscape which gradually intensifies over time. The penultimate ‘Knife’ is another strong long track.
Grab your headphones, plug in, sit back, press play below, and let Nash and Kraft take you to a peaceful place where you can free your mind from the madness outside. As exquisitely original as their debut work the pair weave a luxurious ambient, jazz and modern classical tapestry.
