Pianist, producer and composer John Carroll Kirby will release My Garden, his first solo album for Stones Throw, this April. The lead track from the upcoming album ‘Blueberry Beads’ is streaming below..
Following his impressive debut release for the label, the mega talented artist returns to Stone Throw deliver My Garden – a stunning showcase of his talents. Featuring a collection of songs written, recorded and produced entirely by Kirby, the LP is a pure distillation of his sound — soulful, spiritual, and evocative.
Speaking about the first single he explains: “The song starts the album off upbeat, drawing inspiration from Japanese computer jazzer Yoshio Suzuki … I’m trying to find the depth in being playful, the humanity in technology. I recorded the piano with iPhone voice memos and the flutes are samples instead of a real player. Imagine late 60’s Herbie Hancock played by Sophia, the humanoid AI.”
The new nine-track album follows Kirby’s 2017 debut full-length, Travel and his 2018 autumnal equinox release Meditations in Music.
Stream the single below, and look for the LP out April 24th.
