Bass player Ville Herrala draws on classical & electronic music for solo LP, Pu:

Debut solo album from bass player Ville Herrala.

Hot on the heels of Jonah Parzen-Johnson brilliant Imagine Giving Up  LP, We Jazz Records are set to release the boundary-breaking solo debut of bass player Ville Herrala.

The highly-regarded bass player is known for his work with ensembles such as PLOP, Jukka Perko Jazztet, U-Street All-Stars, Jukka Eskola Orquesta Bossa and UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra to name a few.

On ‘Pu:’ he skillfully utilises only the double bass but approaches the instrument from different perspectives across 14 peices with stunning results.

Listen to the first glimpse ‘Pu 12’, which presents a highly hypnotic rhythmic approach with shades of sounds from the world of minimal classical music and electronic music.

I have not heard any of his previous work so I can’t compare this one to any of them, but after hearing this track, I’m sure his discography is high on quality.

‘Pu:’ will arrive on February 21st, and you can pre-order it here.
