Introducing: Jamael Dean

Twistedsoul - Jameal Dean. Pianist, producer, and jazz prodigy, Jamael Dean has signed to Stones Throw.

Even though the young artist has yet to release his first album he’s already collaborated and performed with the likes of Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño.

His music reflects the dual influence of his Los Angeles contemporaries and jazz ancestors – Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and soul-jazz drummer Donald Dean, who also happens to be his grandfather.

Speaking about the Los Angeles scene, he says, i “the only place I can go in the same day to a jam session with music from the 20s and 30s to another session with music in the 40s through the 80s, and after that play music with my friends from that era onwards.”

Hit the play button and succumb to the two marvellous and equally different tracks. Kicking off with ‘Eledumare’ a groovy jazz number that swings and kicks with an effortless flow while ‘People Tell Olo’ leans towards the LA beat scene.

Look forward to hearing more from Dean, but for now, tuck into below. Buy here.
