London jazz collective Maisha has just announced they will be releasing heir debut album, titled There Is A Place, on November 9th through Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings.
Led by bandleader Jake Long, the six-piece group features a clutch of London musicians who’ve come through the same circles: Amané Suganami (piano/wurlitzer), Twm Dylan (double bass), Tim Doyle (percussion), Yahael Camara-Onono (percussion), Shirley Tetteh (guitar), and Nubya Garcia (saxophone).
Their 2016 debut EP was released through Jazz Re:freshed (whose weekly shows and record label are an institution for forward-thinking jazz), and were part of We Out Here, Brownswood’s early 2018 record which documented London’s genre-bending, jazz-influenced underground.
The six-song project was recorded across three days in mid-2018.
To give us a little glimpse of what’s to come, Maisha has shared the album’s opening track called ‘Osiris’, which you can listen to below.
