With so much good music coming through thick and fast, it’s easy for brand-new music to drop online and go overlooked. To help prevent this, we’ve picked five albums you may have missed, but definitely, need to hear. Stream music from Ramzi, Oliver Coates, Marijus Aleksa, Szun Waves and Singū. If you like what you hear, support the artists.
RAMZi – Phobiza ‘Amor Fati’ Vol.3
Berlin-based Canadian producer Phoebé Guillemot aka RAMZi shares third and final instalment of her Phobiza trilogy. Evocative, immersive this eleven-song project is perfect for late night listening.
Oliver Coates – Shelley’s on Zenn-La
London cellist, composer, and producer Oliver Coates continues to exemplify the spirit of exploration with his new nine-track album. For ‘Shelley’s on Zenn-La,’ he “designs a complex of bending truths and reverse walkways to vernal states.” A lovely album that ebbs and flows between classical and wonky dancefloor experiments.
Marijus Aleksa – MAPS
MAPS is a project by a London-based Lithuanian drummer and producer, Marijus Aleksa. This labour of love is the culmination of many hours spent touring and in-session with some of the greats of London’s bubbling contemporary jazz scene, resulting in Marijus’s first solo project to date. The EP combines elements of jazz, afrobeat and electronic music through free-form jamming and remixing, with movement and the dance floor firmly in mind.
Szun Waves – New Hymn To Freedom
This six-track album from Szun Waves on the brilliant Leaf Label is a document of six entirely live improvisations – “no edits or overdubs”. Listen to the trio take an ever-changing journey into their unpredictable musical world.
Singū – Siki
An amazing fusion of free jazz, post-rock, kosmische and ambient sounds from Japanese duo Singū. Another killer release on the always excellent Growing Bin Records.
