Between The Cracks: 5 Albums You May Have Missed

With so much good music coming through thick and fast, it’s easy for new music to drop online and go unnoticed. To help prevent this, we’ve picked five records you don’t want to sleep on. Stream music from Sofie, JuJu Rogers & Bluestaeb, Jamaire Williams, Fakear and Jessie Mae Hemphill. If you like what you hear, support the artist.

Sofie – SOS Tape

Sofie’s SOS Tape is a compilation of underground’s best hip-hop and soul curated by Sofie Fatouretchi, one of the original crew of Boiler Room.

JuJu Rogers & Bluestaeb – LIT Lost In Translation

LIT is a snapshot of Bluestaeb und JuJu Rogers’ musical endeavors in Fall 2016. Both had a successful 2015 & 2016 with highly acclaimed albums and a European support tour of Oddisee for JuJu Roogers. Both musicians are working on new solo albums and both of them are not happy with having the “boom bap” stamp forced on them.

Jamire Williams – ///// EFFECTUAL

Jamire Williams introduces the world to ///// EFFECTUAL – the masterful avant-drumming album conceived, recorded, and produced across multiple planes of specific studio environments and percussive configurations.

Fakear – Vegetal: Offshoots

Fakear returns with its counterpart Vegetal: Offshoots – a compilation of Animal B-sides with a distinctively global sound. Inspired by love and the synchronous nature of life, Vegetal is, according to Fakear, the fulfilment of the circle of life. Animal is nothing without Vegetal; written at the same time and with the same will.

Jessie Mae Hemphill – Jessie Mae Hemphill

Jessie Mae played guitar and drums, wrote and sang her own songs in the primal northern Mississippi hill country blues traditions. She was considered as the Queen of the Guitard Boogie. As one of the earliest successful female blues musicians, Hemphill has been an influential and pioneering artist.
