After the acclaimed download compilations ‘Stylin’ 500′ and ‘Stylin’ 600′ (feat. Sampha, Amin Payne, Andras Fox, Fulgeance, Kirkis, RAah Project, etc), Ennio Styles drops the very first artist release on his Heard and Felt imprint. Having support from the likes of Jazzy Jeff, Gilles Peterson and many other greats Melbourne audio-visual artist Cy Gorman delivers ‘Carman’ to the world and it’s a cracker. Drawing on his skills as composer, producer, pianist, saxophonist and vocalist, the sound ranges from the feelgood synth-funk of ‘Cool Change’ and 8-bit baroque beats of ‘Carmen San Diego’ to the leftfield bossa of ‘The Wishing Well’ and smoky jazz club vibes of ‘RDJ’. Have also got to mention ‘The Wishing Well’ featuring vocalist Gian Slater, this is for me, the standout track from the EP, there is something about the simplicity in this song that makes it so easy to enjoy.
Flirting with many genres, Gorman funnels his influences from Hip Hop, Soul, Jazz and Electronica into something very exciting and warm. You can listen to a few highlights below. You’d be a fool not to get this album, but just for those in doubt…get this on Bandcamp now!
