The Leftovers

Treat your taste buds to these mouthwatering leftovers!

Good music is dropping daily, and it’s easy to miss some good stuff. That’s why every week, we sift through emails, blogs, and streaming services to pull out five gems worth your time and make sure the good stuff doesn’t slip by unnoticed. This week, Naima Adams, Sharada Shashidhar, Harlan Silverman and more. Dig in and enjoy.

South London-based artist/vocalist Naima Adams has announced the release of her debut EP, ‘When We Let Go’, a collection of spirited soul/contemporary R&B cuts and personal storytelling connected by kindred tussles with acceptance, closure, endurance and freeing one’s past; it’s a flag in the sand, not only personally but artistically. ‘All I Ever Wanted’ emerges as the EP’s delectably smooth, quietly infectious lead track, gliding in with a slowโ€‘burning, irresistible pull.

L.A. vocalist and composer Sharada Shashidhar resurfaced earlier this month with the seductive and absorbing new track ‘Arches’. The song is from her upcoming album, ‘A Foot on the Ground’, which will be released on June 5th through Colorfield Records. It was recorded at Lucy’s Meat Market studio with producer Pete Min and features collaborations with Benny Bock, Mark Guiliana, and Devin Daniels. Speaking about the track, Sharada explains, “Arches took shape from a preexisting backdrop of chords and drums I had played. I then had an unusually free-flowing string of lyrics in a moment of solitude”. Listen to the new single below and keep an eye out for the new album!

Lovely, unwinding, meditative new-age instrumental intricacy, with subtle hints of Indian classical music, and Japanese environmental music, from Harlan Silverman, one-third of Cosmic Tones Research Trio. His new album, Music for Stillness, circles around a simple but disarming question: what might peace actually sound like? For Silverman, the answer unfolds in a palette of bansuri flute, gliding slide guitars, shimmering crystal bowls, and softly breathing modular synths. The result is ten spacious, soul-soothing musical meditations to warm your earbuds.

After something a bit stranger? The MerKaBa Brotherhood, and yes, that name is fantastic – in their own words, the duo, “draw from esoteric texts, sacred imagery, and mystic thought, shaping sound into space, tone, and pulse.” The MerKaBa Brotherhood is a new collaboration between Roman Norfleet (The Cosmic Tones Research Trio , Be Present Art Group) and Andre Raiah (Brown Calvin of Brown Calculus, Be Present Art Group).ย  If what you’re looking for is a track to relax and soothe you whilst being slightly off-centre, then look no further than ‘Galgalim’. From the moment that the jittering drums, gentle chimesย and wavering Rhodes start, you can’t help but sink into their effervescent soundscapes. ย Check it out below and look out for their self-titled album, which is out May 15th via Mississippi Records.

If you’re craving something calming yet still carrying a subtle groove, Jeff Parker’s ‘Like Swimwear (part one) and (two)’ is what you need. The beautifully soft soundscapes pulls you in from the first moment, inviting you to sink back or gently sway. Backed by his ETA IVtet crew of Jay Bellerose on drums, Anna Butterss on bass, and Josh Johnson on saxophone, the quartet ripple with ideas from one instrument to the next, sometimes echoing, sometimes contradicting, always evolving. Stream below and let yourself get lost a little.
