Shay Hazan – LPB ( TS Premiere)

Tel Aviv-based musician Shay Hazan has been an absolute favourite since we heard his track ‘Bob Dealer‘, and the arrival of new music from him always puts us in a state of excitement.

When It Rains It Pours, his forthcoming album, was born from adversity and blooms into revelation. The bassist’s third solo album marks a radical departure from his guimbri-centred earlier work, driven by necessity when joint issues forced him away from double bass and back to electric bass—an instrument he’d abandoned for years.

This physical constraint sparked creative liberation. Across eleven tracks, Hazan evolves from Gnawa traditionalist to studio alchemist, weaving bass, guitar, synths, and electronic production into hypnotic tapestries that blur spiritual jazz with Afrobeat and experimental electronica. ‘Kolot’ resurrects a half-forgotten collaboration with Ethiopian saxophonist Abate Berihune, his wordless vocals floating over Hazan’s restless grooves. ‘4-8’ channels Fela Kuti through a Middle Eastern prism, while the gorgeous ‘Embrace’—featuring Hazan’s own vocals—transforms pain into meditative mantra.

Today, we’re premiering one of our favourite tracks from the record, ‘LPB’. It’s a hypnotic piece of spiritual jazz, where Hazan’s clean, crisp guitar licks meet children’s voices and Eyal Netzer’s irresistible sax lines. It’s the kind of track you’ll have on repeat endlessly!

When It Rains It Pours, arrives on December 5th via the brilliant Batov Records. Pre-order here.
