Cantrips – Red Umbrella (TS Premiere)

Patrick Ryan is set to release a new album titled From A Darebin Cave on 2nd May under his solo project, Cantrips. The album’s eight tracks focus on psychedelic folk and soulful grooves with a cinematic warmth, conjuring a contemporary and timeless sound. It won’t take long before you’re lost in a warming blend of acoustic and electric sounds, smooth guitar melodies, marimba beats, and soothing vocals.

From A Darebin Cave explores themes such as solitude, transformation, growth, and self-reflection. It was recorded in two days with a 7-piece live band and features members from Don Glori, Karate Boogaloo, and more. The album mainly focuses on instrumentals from nylon strings, synths, percussion instruments, and vocals. Ryan’s lyricism is inspired by romantic poets like Pablo Neruda, William Blake, and Mary Oliver. Indie,  folk and soul music fans alike will enjoy the album and its messages.

Red Umbrella is the fifth track on the upcoming album. Effortlessly magnetic, it’s hard not to gravitate towards its nostalgic, calming, and cinematic vibe that transports you into imaginations of faraway lands.

The track’s climax has lovely nylon guitar strums and drum rhythms joined by electric beats and background sounds, adding a sonic dimension to the track. Ryan’s voice rises in timber and falls to create harmony with the instrumentals that make Red Umbrella such a soulful and atmospheric number.
