We’ve whipped up these five tasty morsels into easily digestible snippets. This week, we’re showcasing new music from Aki Himanen, Eliana Glass, Allexa Nava, Cousin, and Antoine Fahy. So go ahead, dive in and savour the delightful tidbits.
Browsing through my emails searching for fresh music, I stumbled upon an EP by saxophonist, flautist and composer Allexa Nava. With an atmospheric flair and a penchant for experimentation, Nava’s soundscapes wander through jazz and venture beyond. The tracks’ Cycles/Circles’ and ‘Copycat’ are undeniable highlights, showcasing melodic brilliance and exuberant energy. ‘In The Final’ is my fave, revealing the wide range of Nava’s impressive musical language. Alexa Nava has a unique sound that’s got me craving more.
Aki Himanen, a maestro of atmospheric jazz with a distinct cinematic touch, is one of those artists who’ve been simmering quietly for some time. His latest piece might be a case of dรฉjร vu, spinning us through a whirly, slow-simmering ambient jazz composition that luxuriously unfolds over its 5.16 runtime. Beautiful stuff.
If you long for the comforting embrace of vocal jazz and soft piano notes, listen to Eliana Glass. The New York-based musician produces a sound that simultaneously evokes nostalgia and feels refreshingly innovative, making it the enchanting muse you never knew you were missing. So, slip on your headphones, close your eyes, and let Glass take you on a short trip that’s as delightful as discovering a hidden speakeasy with perfect ambience.
Cousin appears to be a seasoned veteran in the game, but he’s only now released his debut album. Wake The Town dances with space and rhythm through six expansive tracks like an elegant ballroom couple. It artfully weaves sonic landscapes that balance feeling intimately close and vast like the open cosmos.ย Deep, spaciousย and delightfully dubby, this is top-tier dub techno.ย This album has so many gems, from theย tribal-infused dub of the title trackย to theย broken electro rhythm of Lu’s Dub.ย The fifth track, Hourglass, stands out on the album, diving into percussive depths to create a rich, tribal atmosphere accompanied by complex production. Well worth the wait.
After many years of production and DJ sets focusing on electronic music, this is the first EP from Antoine Fahy’s solo project. Jazz funk and broken beat influences have naturally inspired the musicality of these two tracks, mixing piano sounds and analog synths. The bass lines are played with a Moog synth, and the beats are composed on Ableton. The EP offers a simple and evolving approach to jazz music.
