The Leftovers

We’re buzzing with excitement about some fantastic new releases! We haven’t gotten around to penning a full-blown article yet, but don’t worryโ€”we’ve ensured you don’t miss out. We’ve packaged these into easily digestible snippets in our “Leftovers” feature. Dive in and enjoy the five tidbits we’ve dished out!

Wandering Notes is the forthcoming album by Japanese contemporary composer, film composer, music producer and pianist Marika Takeuchi. The album draws inspiration from all the places Takeuchi visited last year and the feeling of coming home after those long trips. The pieces were written in various locations around the globe and recorded on Takeuchi’s grand piano at home. Take a listen to the enchanting ‘Blue Grotto’ below.

Composer Sophia Jani and violinist Teresa Allgaier present ‘Six Pieces for Solo Violin’ on Squama Recordings. This serene work highlights specific technical elements, pushing the limits of violin performance while maintaining an illusion of effortless simplicity.

Japanese pianist Masako Ohta is back with her new EP, Solo, on Squama. It features three pieces by composer Matthias Lindermayr and a beautiful rendition of Ryuichi Sakamotoโ€™s tune, ‘Hibari’. The songs blend a sense of melancholy calm with joyful improvisation, making the music a treat for the attentive listener and those who might let their minds wander.

‘Below Dawn’ marks the second studio album by singer, songwriter and musician Bryony Jarman-Pinto. As it traverses’ sentimental themes, from societal change and untapped emotions to the profound journey of pregnancy and motherhood, the album produced by Ben Lamdin, aka label-mate Nostalgia 77, exudes an aura of intimacy.

Created in just about a single day, Joy Machine is an album that brings together Londonโ€™s finest jazz talents alongside the rap and poetry of Bristolโ€™s Dizraeli. It features artists like Joseph Costi, Ronan Perrett, Alabaster DePlume, Simmy Singh and Daisy George.
