Returning To Origins With “>>>>” by BEAK>

The album “>>>>” by experimental electronic postrock band BEAK> is an impressive return to basics by the trio. Releasing the album without any prior promotion or announcement, “>>>>” is a wonderful surprise brought forth by the innovative band.

With an album cover featuring a gigantic dog (Geoff Barrow’s late beloved Alfie) blasting lasers from its eyes, unique and unorthodox are just one of the many words to describe this eccentric album that once again features the best of the group’s ability both as individual musicians and as a collective.

Made up of Billy Fuller, Will Young, and Geoff Barrow — who also serves as the acting leader of the group, BEAK> released their latest album almost six years after their previous album, “>>>”.

Deciding to go back to the origins of their playing style from their first album — with no expectations and just raw and spontaneous jamming, BEAK> released “>>>>” with a bold and daring gusto that is unapologetic at best.

The result is an album that focuses on ‘head music’—an album best listened to as a collection rather than individual tracks. BEAK> successfully delivers on this intent with effortless grace, something expected from the talented trio.

While suggested to be listened to and appreciated as a whole, tracks in the album such as ‘The Seal’, ‘Denim’, ‘Hungry We Are’ and ‘Ah Yeh’ are perfect examples of the excellent musical execution and mastery over atmosphere that BBEAK> has crafted and honed throughout their time in the industry.

“>>>>” is a wonderful, raw, and unfiltered musical collection that is bound to allure and enchant any listener with its powerfully captivating musicality and complex layers that can tickle any listener’s curiosity.
