Inspired by her newborn daughter, the American musician Julia Holter has released her sixth studio album, ‘Something in the Room She Moves’. This album delves into the unsung world of motherhood through the artist’s own experience of being a mother, and she focuses on capturing a childlike playfulness with the exhaustion and stress of the pandemic backdrop to which the album was written. This fundamental art-pop album features a range of genres, including avant-garde music, jazz-infused post-rock, classical, psychedelic folk, and electropop. Sonically, the album departs from Holter’s past work; she has chopped off everything redundant and compiled solid, consistent and well-crafted pieces of music, which is evident from the title track. It features American bassist and composer Devin Hoff, among many other collaborators such as Chris Speed and Elizabeth Goodfellow.
