Sandman Project – Where Did You Go?

 Sandman Project

“Where Did You Go?” Is the title track from Sandman Project’s long-awaited debut album after their debut EP, released in 2018.  This track is the second released single of this album.

Tel Aviv-based Sandman Projects is led by guitarist and composer Tal Sandman and comprises four other core musicians: Tal Avraham playing trumpet, Tal Eyal on percussion, Noam Cherchie on drums and Ariel Harrosh on bass and this album features guest vocalist Dafna Shilon.

‘Where Did You Go?’, like other songs of this record, stems from Tal’s desire for unity and peace and bears the essence of the harmonious life of Jaffa, a diverse urban region of Tel Aviv and also the birthplace of the Sandman Project. This track encapsulates Sandman’s fervent search for new sounds, rhythms and melodies that have taken her around the globe, from Africa to India. She, along with her trusted fellow musicians, has transmuted all of their eclectic knowledge into the band’s sui generis style of making music.

‘Where Did You Go?’ has brass-heavy sounds that traverse Afrobeat and Ethio jazz. It emanates film noir with Tal’s immaculate use of the Tezeta scales from Ethiopia over the background of an Afrobeat-inspired psychedelic groove. The conversational interplay between electric guitar and trumpet materialises an abstract soundscape of a tantalising harmony among the musical elements derived from the East to the West. The seemingly sporadic synth work is as mesmerising as the blooming Sakura in the spring. With each passing second, this eponymous track delves deeper into the inner world of the Sandman Project and reveals its sanguine vision of peace, compassion and humanity.
