Apefira, the electronic jazz quartet, graced us with one of our most cherished 2021 albums, Overstand. Not stopping there, they also treated us to an equally fantastic EP later in that same year. We’re delighted to say Nitai Hershkovits, Yuvi Havkin (Rejoicer), Amir Bresler and Yonatan Albalak are back with a new track.
The quartet embarks on an exciting sonic exploration with ‘Theodor Marmalade’, where they blend the rich essence of psychedelic rock and the unique flavour of alternative jazz they are best known for. Tinkering with norms, with this track, they confidently stride into unexplored sonic territories, hinting at even more exciting musical experiments to come.
For the first time, the group also throws in their own lyrics and weaves a contemplative story about an intriguing character, Theodor. Having broken away from humanity, Theodor resides serenely within the cradle of nature, but over time, he finds an increasing longing for the buzzing energy that makes up modern society…
Apifera says: “We all grew up in cities and at some point got tired of them. There’s always a dream of leaving to some secluded spot, but once you’re there, you feel detached from society, however fucked up it is.” Mindful that this is a heartbreaking time of violence and war, the band adds, “We do not support violence of any kind and can’t fathom how the world today could choose anything other than peace, but until such a time comes when humanity can transcend boundaries and conflicts, we are dedicated to spreading love and light through the unifying power of music.”
Go ahead, treat your ears to ‘Theodor Marmalade’ below.
