There’s wonderful news from International Anthem/Nonesuch Records who has announced the release of MESTIZX, the debut from Bolivian-born songwriter Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti and renowned Puerto Rican drummer Frank Rosaly. The Amsterdam-based couple united in both marriage and artistry, immersed themselves in the rich melodies of their individual ancestral lands: Bolivia, Brazil, and Puerto Rico. Their creation is a deeply intimate reflection on decolonisation, embodying the unyielding strength found in rituals and protests.

The initial peek at the album ‘DESTEJER’ dives deeply into rhythm, is adorned with touches of jazz and with unexpected changes of direction. Rosaly’s cyclical patterns are perfectly complemented by Ibelisse’s rich, melodic tones. It’s as if they were meant to go together just like a symphony composed in heaven.

You’ll also hear the distinct percussive sounds from Mikel Patrick Avery, striking cornet leads by Ben LaMar Gay the enchanting flute notes by Rob Frye from Bitchin Bajas. It’s a feast of sounds that will earworm its way into your head!

‘DESTEJER’ comes with a video filmed at Corani Lake near Ferragutti’s hometown in Cochabamba, Bolivia by Espectador Domesticado. Watch it below.
