Guest Playlist: Okvsho

Drawing musical inspiration from the far corners of the world, the Swiss brother duo, Christoph and Georg Kiss aka Okvsho, crafts a broad range of contemporary jazz that embraces a myriad of diverse cultures. The upcoming album from the talented duo, A Place Between Us, showcases their forward-thinking and innovative approach to music. Drawing influence from notable UK artists like Yussef Kamaal, Ezra Collective, Nubya Garcia and Alfa Mist, they have woven together a truly global sound. The brothers have taken their love for music and used it to bridge cultural gaps they’ve also sought to bring a variety of voices into the mix. The album features contributions from an eclectic and international collection of artists. Poets, rappers, and musicians hailing from Argentina, Haiti, and South Africa have added their unique flavours to this musical melting pot.

Bonding their penchant for Stones Throw-esque beats with jazz influences from the UK and South Africa, A Place Between Us travels through a myriad of moods, from dreamscape ambience and dance-inducing baile to reggaeton-tinged rhythms.

Ahead of the album the Kiss brothers have put together a playlist of influential music and we’re excited to unveil the splendid selection of tunes they’ve picked for us. Speaking about their influences the brothers offer:

Cktrl:
Sometimes, expressing complex thoughts, feelings or emotions through instrumental music can be a challenge. Cktrl to us has the ability of translating the depths of emotions into auditory form by just using a few (if not just one) musical elements but still articulating a vast spectrum of feelings. His music was therefore very inspiring to the intimate approach that we followed for this project.

Inflo:

We’re really into Inflo’s production style. There’s this raw humanity to both playing style and sound that we find refreshing. Each element in his tracks has its own space to breathe and flourish, nothing feels overly polished or forced. That natural feeling is something we aspire to in our own music as well.
