Welcome news last week that Berlin-based Swedish tenor saxophonist Otis Sandsjö will release his third album ‘Y-OTIS TRE’ on We Jazz Records next month. Recorded with long-time playing colleagues bassist/producer Petter Eldh and Dan Nicholls, you know that Sandsjö always sets new standards with each release. This next chapter is no different.
Crafted by the trio and produced by Eldh & Sandsjö, Y-OTIS TRE does justice to its name (with “tre” being Swedish for three). It holds its own in the realm of liquid jazz – a signature style of the Eldh/Sandsjö, who continue to demonstrate their astute production craft that they’ve sharpened over their work as Y-OTIS and Koma Saxo.
With the release date just over five weeks away, Sandsjö is tempting us with the lead track ‘LOOMY’, blending elements of drum and bass and even a touch of orchestral vibes. It’s loose yet playful with a hint of melancholy, adding depth to the track.

Putting a tag onto this music feels a bit like trying to hold a very colorful, somewhat thick liquid substance on the palm of your hand. You can see it, feel it, but never fully pinpoint just what it’s made of. But it works, so best just to enjoy the ride.
