Lurking between spacious leftfield electronics and improv jazz is where you’ll find Canadian experimentalist Sandro Perri as he presents the final volume in the trilogy of Off World albums.
The third chapter finds Perri in a blissfully adventurous mood; as usual, he’s joined by frequent Off World collaborators Drew Brown, Matthew Cooper, Susumu Mukai and Andrew Zukerman. Also joining the party are Nicole Rampersaud on trumpet and Martin Arnold on guitar, both mainstays of Toronto’s vibrant improv and out-music scenes.
In ‘3’, you can expect a departure from the shorter compositions of ‘1’ and ‘2’ as it embraces long-form tracks. Out of the five tracks that grace the project, three of them clock in around the 10-minute mark. These immersive pieces showcase a unique blend of overtly improvised instrumental playing that gracefully navigates across dynamically shifting electronic soundscapes, creating a mesmerising journey for your ears to explore.
You can hear the first single, ‘Impulse Controller’, from the upcoming album below. Immerse yourself in the enchanting rhythms of a languidly skewed rhumba. With melodic undercurrents and dubby electronic pointillism, this musical journey will effortlessly transport you to a dulcet promenade. Experience Rampersaud’s mesmerising trumpet excursions that evoke echoes of Miles Davis himself.
It’s an expansive and imaginative preview of what’s to come!
