We’re proud to unveil another episode of our collaborative project with Twistedsoul, which sees Colin Smith curate a set of monthly guest shows and mixes with new episodes unveiled the first Monday of every month. This month’s inspired installment introduces some fantastic selections courtesy of drummer and composer, Marijus Aleksa.
With his debut EP ‘MAPS’ released in 2018, Marijus is currently soaking up plaudits from his sensational ‘As They Are’ album released earlier this year. The Lithuanian-born and London-based artist has amassed a stellar reputation having chalked up collaborations with some of the UK’s most prominent talent within today’s contemporary jazz scene. ‘As They Are’ was recorded over the course of three years and comprised of jam sessions and improvised pieces featuring a total of 23 musicians from the UK, US, Lithuania and Cuba. The album was painstakingly pieced together, remixed and rearranged, resulting in the glorious twelve-track album currently presented and that serves as a shining testament to Marijus’ career to date.
Today’s phenomenal mix continues that far-reaching scope as described by Marijus himself: “It is an audio collage made of musicians I like from different times and scenes. A large orchestra that only exists in my mind.”
Tonight’s show features incredible offerings from Eliane Radigue, Billy Martin, Dalius Naujokaitis, Liudas Mockunas, Vladimir Tarasov, Rob Mazurek, Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, Sarunas Nakas, Japanese Gagaku Ensemble, Bennie Maupin and Adam Rudolf.
A massive thanks again to Colin Smith and Twistedsoul for this fantastic gift, and please check the Twistedsoul radio show that airs Thursdays at 10 pm, exclusive to Blue-in-Green:RADIO.
