Music and dance These two art forms have been used for centuries to express emotion, tell stories, and unite people. They can be used as a form of communication, connecting people from all walks of life. Music and dance are powerful tools to bring people together and create joy.
LA-based drummer and composer Tommaso Cappellato brings the two together with stunning results on his new album for the artistic collective Pavimento Fertile.
‘Dancing Around Fire‘ features a mix of cosmic soul and timeless funky grooves that celebrate the culture of drum breaks and sampling. The album’s seven tracks were composed in as many days, taking the listener straight to the dance floor. It features soulful vocals from Lalin St. Juste and Cameron Kinghorn, musicians like Michael Blake, Andrea Lombardini, and DJ Stepmom. The collaboration between dancer and musician came about through Cappellato’s live performance at the Pavimento Fertile dance jam in 2021, which inspired the commission of an album of original music.
Infused with uplifting beats and colourful melodies that will get anyone moving. The album showcases Cappellato’s talent in creating infectious dance-oriented, fun and meaningful music. From the upbeat ‘Made Of Gloden Light’ to the more reflective ‘Warming Up’, ‘Dancing Around Fire’ offers a diverse range of tracks catering to different moods and tastes. The production quality is top-notch, with each sound and beat carefully crafted to create a cohesive and dynamic listening experience.
If you have only a passing interest in dance’s role in shaping the music, then this is a must-listen.
