Senegal and Sweden collaboration Wau Wau Collectif has announced the release of a new album, ‘Mariage’.
This album follows 2021’s acclaimed debut, Yaral Sa Doom (Educate The Young), and sees them take their sound in a more stylistically diverse direction. A mix of children’s songs, hip-hop beats meets fuzzy guitar solos, hypnotic percussive balafon, kora stylings and more flow throughout the twelve songs.

The album features a wide range of musicians from the two continents, led by Senegalese singer Arouna Kane and Swedish musician Karl Jonas Winqvist. Curiously, while lyrically dealing with explicitly political lyrics, the music doesn’t feel weighty or rhythmically dense. It is magnetic and ephemeral at the same time.
Mariage is dedicated to the memory of the late flute player Ousmane Bah who sadly passed away after completing the album.
Sahel Sounds will release Mariage on November 11th, but we can already hear the captivating and joyous lead track, ‘Xale (Toubab Dialaw Kids Rhyme)’. Take a listen below.
