New Sounds: Grandamme – Nirvana

Grandamme are a duo from East London & Bath, formed of Claudia Kane and Bastien Keb.

London label Def Pressé is always cooking up delicious music, and their latest tasty morsel comes from Grandamme, aka Claudia Kane and Bastien Keb.

Their debut offering, ‘Nirvana’, is a match made in heaven, showcasing how seamlessly they are intertwined. Kane’s timeless songwriting and soulfully affecting voice complements Keb’s dreamlike production of orchestral instrumentation over a lo-fi beat.

In ‘Nivarna’, you will find a tapestry of haunting chamber-pop and lush vocals that create an almost hypnotic experience.

Talking about the song, Kane says: Nirvana is about a need to be transcended from some of the darker conflicts with myself, the world, others, and the past. The verses contain a lot of tension but when the chorus hits it makes me feel like I dive into where I’m floating. This symbolises the frequent push and pull between fantasy, euphoria and the struggles and mundanities of real life.”

While their debut album is still in the works, enjoy the single now and look forward to their next musical endeavour.
