South Africa’s Mushroom Hour Half Hour and London’s Total Refreshment Recordings are releasing a collaborative album called ‘On Our Own Clock’ this September.
The record is a sonic testament to trenchant and collaborative creativity, which digs into layers of South African jazz, traditional Senegalese instrumental music and London’s rich diaspora-informed musicality.
On Our Own Clock features 14 players, including Theon Cross, Alabaster dePlume, Asher Gamdeze, Siya Makuzeni, Yahael Camara Onono and more.
The release comprises the album, a fanzine, and an experimental film made by South African filmmakers Nhlanhla Masondo and Tseliso Monaheng, which features artist interviews, session footage and Zoom recordings.
