World-renowned drummer, composer, producer and beatmaker, Myele Manzanza, is releasing a new EP called ‘Crisis & Opportunity’ Vol.1 – London via DeepMatter this April.
Born out of Manzanza’s necessity to direct his creative energy in a productive direction and maintain his growth as an artist during the 2020 Covid 19 lockdown, ‘Crisis & Opportunity’ reflects the time we currently live in as a global society.
Across the project’s five tracks, Manzanza brings together jazz with broken beat, electronica and afro. ‘Crisis & Opportunity’ Vol.1 also features musical comrades Ashley Henry (piano), James Copus (trumpet), George Crowley (tenor saxophone), Benjamin Muralt (bass) and additional contributions from the legendary Mark de Clive-Lowe (synths).
Ahead of the EP, Manzanza has put together a playlist that directly and indirectly influenced the upcoming project. From classic hard bop to the London underground to epic symphonic movements.
The magical playlist includes music from jazz legends Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, and contemporary players like Kamaal Williams and Ashley Henry.
