Finnish experimental musician, poet, dancer and filmmaker Hanna Ojala aka H-M O has very quickly become my latest obsession. Having discovered her unique and fascinating work via TSMM site, I’ve been excitedly trawling her vast array of audio-visual treats on her YouTube channel.
There are some highly creative and bonkers endeavours to entertain you for hours, and this one titled ‘Evolved Body and Soul’ is one of my favourites.
The track combines a hypnotic lo-fi beat with her unique vocal delivery, Ojala describes it as” a bunch of improvised strange stuff and then some”. It’s a beautiful piece of free-flowing off-the-cuff improvisation that comes with an equally captivating music video.
Hanna Ojala doesn’t make music that conforms and is easily categorised, but she never seems to disappoint and she always, seems to surprise.
“I am an artist who loves to surprise herself by combining elements which when put together create something completely unexpected.”
