On The Corner is releasing the debut album by Asher Gamedze, called Dialectic Soul, 10th July.
Some of you may remember the Cape Town-based drummer for his feature on ‘Capetown’ from Angel Bat Dawid’s fantastic spiritual opus, The Oracle.
Recorded live over two days at the Sound and Motion Studios in Cape Town, Gamedze says “Dialectic Soul is about motion and a refusal to remain static or stay still. It’s the commitment to be continually moving”
On the album is Asher Gamedze (drums), Thembinkosi Mavimbela (bass), Buddy Wells (tenor sax), Robin Fassie-Kock (trumpet) and Nono Nkoane (vox).
Today, we’re sharing ‘state of emergence suite’. The epic, side-long piece of music, described as “exquisite and emotionally raw” by Robin D.G. Kelley in the album’s liner notes will render you completely incapacitated for the rest of the day.
The cover artwork was created by Victoria Topping, who designed the sleeve based on Gamedze’s drawings and concept.
