Tenderlonious explores the legacy of British jazz legend Tubby Hayes on new EP

Tenderlonious is releasing a new EP of Tubby Hayes reinterpretations.

22a founder, producer and multi-instrumentalist, Tenderlonious pays homage to British Jazz legend Tubby Hayes on a new EP set for release with Jazz Detective Records next month.

A chance sequence of events lead to Tenderlonious getting his hands on Tubby Hayes’ piccolo, resulting in this fantastic re-interpretation of four classic Tubby Hayes tracks.

“I feel extremely honoured to be involved with this project. When Gavin, Jazz Detective Records, first approached me with his vision to make this record I knew very little about Tubby Hayes. Recording his music has led me to appreciate an unsung hero of jazz, one of the most proficient and talented musicians I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing – a true great! Learning his music has pushed me to become a better player. I truly hope this recording helps a new generation of jazz fans to discover and appreciate the legacy of Tubby Hayes”. Ed ‘Tender’ Cawthorne

The Piccolo – Tender Plays Tubby features some of London’s finest jazz musicians today, alongside Tenderlonious is Nick Walters (trumpet), Hamish Balfour (piano), Aidan Shepherd (accordion), Tim Carnegie (drums) and Pete Martin (bass guitar).

Look out for the EP which is out on 8th May.
