Jon Hassell is reissuing his 1977 debut LP Vernal Equinox on vinyl for the first time in 42 years.
Set for release on March 20th via his own Ndeya imprint the seminal LP gave the world the first taste of what Hassell called “Fourth World,” which mixed jazz, electronic, ambient, field recordings and Indian classical music. The 6-track album featured an number of taletend musicians including percussionist Naná Vasconcelos and David Rosenboom on synths.
The reissue of Vernal Equinox follows his 2018 Listening To Pictures (Pentimento Volume One) album. Remastered from the original tapes the reissue also comes with sleevenotes by Hassell and his longtime friend and musical collaborator Brian Eno.
Hassell has also announced that he will be releasing an album of new material later this year.
