On The Corner shares first single from Taarab singer, Siti Muharam

Siti Muharam - Ashikibaya feat. Tamar Collocutor | On The Corner shares first single from Taarab singer.

It’s safe to say that On The Corner are one of the most interesting and exciting labels around.

Since 2103 they’ve wowed our ears with staggering releases from the likes of Collocutor, Penya, Planet Battogan, Tenesha The Wordsmith, ThE DiAboLIcaL LibERTieS to name a few.

As expected, their next offering is another equally stunning release from Siti Muharam, the grand-daughter of Siti Binti Saad, the legendary mother of Taarab and the first woman in East Africa to record an album.

The album titled ‘Siti’s of Unguja’ will arrive in East Africa in January 2020 with a full international release to follow on limited edition vinyl in February.

Ahead of the release, you can stream the Sam Jones Construct of ‘Ashikibaya’ which features Tamar Collocutor.

With ‘Ashikibaya’, producer Sam Jones impresses with his colourful and vivid Swahili jazz and Taarab atmospherics while Collocutor’s trance-inducing sax lines are exquisite. It’s all topped off by those sensational vocals of Muharam.

We really can’t wait to hear the rest of the record, because this track is quite frankly stunning!

Ashikibaya / Mandira arrives on 12/12 via On The Corner. Pre-order from Bandcamp.
