It’s been a while since we last heard from Penya, but the silence is broken with their new track. Quintessentially Penya, the latest track ‘Heyyeh’ is packed with hypnotic percussion, infectious grooves, undeniably stunning hooks and uplifting vocal intonations, and that’s what we love about the quartet.
Penya’s unique and astonishing range of sounds – from Afro-Cuban, Latin to electronic, has gained them a loyal following since the band’s formation in 2009.
On this new release, the London-based outfit is joined by Tanzanian musician Msafiri Zawose. In 2017 bandleader Magnus PI. spent some time making music with Zawose in Bagamoyo and ‘Heyyeh’ is the first tasty fruit to be shared. The release comes with a remix from new OtC family member Guedra Guedra who will be dropping his own productions with the label soon.
