Ease yourself into the evening with the floating sounds Jefre Cantu-Ledesma.
The multi-instrumentalist new three-track release is a slow-burning affair that delves far afield from the pop-tinged arrangements which have defined his recent efforts.
Tracing Back The Radiance follows Cantu-Ledesma’s 2017 full-length, On The Echoing Green, and his collaborative projects with Alexis Georgopoulos and Félicia Atkinson.
The record nods to the heyday of ambient and electroacoustic music as well as drawing influence from Italian minimalist pioneers such as Gusto Pio, Lino Capra Vaccina and Francesco Messina and Raul Lovisoni.
Immersing the listener in a airy, spacious ambience, the album wonders down a warming path of relaxing instrumentation and serene soundscapes. Over the three tracks, Cantu-Ledesma gently taps away at the vibraphone while a host of collaborators including John Also Bennett (flute), Marilu Donavan, Mary Lattimore (harp), Chuck Johnson (pedal steel guitar), and others delicately weave between the lines.
