Young Marco – Bahasa

Young Marco explores his Indonesian roots on his new album Bahasa. Across the seven tracks, he captures the spirit, ambience and atmosphere of the islands providing the perfect soundtrack for your summer holiday or a long road trip. In times of more and more, Marco takes the listener on a calm and soothing adventure where less is best. Tracks worth a special mention are ‘Kalapa Garden’, ‘Looking Back’, ‘Temple On A Road’, and the stunning closing track, ‘The Beginning And End’. The new record continues Island of the Gods Records’ Island Explorer’ album series.

Grup Ses & Elektro Hafız – Varyete

Istanbul producer extraordinaire Grup Ses and Cologne-based electric-saz player Elektro Hafız hook up for Varyete. Travelling from deep Anatolian psychedelic grooves to dirty electronics, playful beats and hip hop, Varyete is an adventurous ride of genre-bending music. A top-quality project with no fillers – this is an excellent album, don’t sleep!

Tenesha The Wordsmith – Peacocks and Other Savage Beasts

Tenesha The Wordsmith turns in a hard-hitting, gut-wrenching and beautifully rich spoken word album for On the Corner. Recorded entirely with Khalab who brings together different strands of black music – folkloric, jazz, and electronic dance – into an afro-futurist narrative with booming results. Pulling no punches TTW certainly dosen’t hold back, with lyrics that consists equally of both raw beauty and vicious intensity. Yet again the London label continues to push the envelope with this monstrous release. If you’re looking for something a little different, this is one for you, just press play and see for yourself. Really unique, exciting and fantastic music!

Caleb Giles – Under The Shade

The third solo album from New York rapper Caleb Giles blends skilful lyricism, sublime beats and brilliant production. As with 2017’s Tower and last year’s There Will Be Rain LP’s, it’s Giles’ honest, everyday lyricism and smooth flow that elevates this record, and with help from the likes of Duendita, Pink Siifu and Cleo Reed, he’s created another brilliant body of work. I simply love every single track on this outstanding project. Definitely, need more rap albums like this in my life!

Bryony Jarman-Pinto – Cage and Aviary

London-based singer-songwriter Bryony Jarman-Pinto recently released her long-awaited debut album titled Cage & Aviary. Rich with personality and character, the 13-song record is the culmiantion of three years work, in which she ties personal reflection to wider social issues, giving an intimate insight in to what it means to come of age in today’s world. With lush, soulful sounds, beautiful harmonies, textured melodies and Pinto providing the warmth the LP works as a cohesive whole. ‘As I’ve Heard’, ‘Sweet Sweet’, ‘All About Life’, and ‘Threads’ are the standout cuts for me. An exceptional slice of contemporary UK jazz and soul.
