Video: Abro -Honey Bee ft. KerenDun (TS Premiere)

South African bassist Gilad Abro provides the latest instalment in Raw Tapes’ Time Grove Selections series.

Kicking off in 2014 the series of releases originated from the encounters of leading jazz musicians and producer Rejoicer.

Across the 11-track project, you’ll hear a wide range of styles from electronic jazz to contemporary R&B, jazz-tinged house rhythms and more. The stunning album features some brilliant  instrumentalists – Amir Bresler, Sefi Zisling, Nitai Hershkovits, Nomok – and vocalists – KerenDun, Karolina, Echo.

“The name of the’ album’ Leaf Boy’ comes from an old memory of mine, says Abro growing up in a village house in Capetown with lots of trees and vegetables which were a big part of my childhood. Nowadays, after years in the city, I live in a village in the countryside, I grow vegetables and plants,’ it’s my therapy and joy and it takes me back. Working with Rejoicer was such a pure organic experience. He brought out of me, with his unique twist, my different colors of love for music.”

Speaking about working with the legendary bassist, Rejoicer says: “Abro is a very particular man. It was pure delight and fun working and constructing this album together. Our intimate sessions before recording with the trio were magical and we got to set the vibes, temperatures and colors for all the tracks.”

Abro has given the first offering, ahead of the LPs’ release; Honey Bee an infectious track with KerenDun’s rich tones and bouncy beats, accompanied by visuals from Rejoicer and Jengo.

Utterly mesmerising, check out the video up top!
