A brand new guest playlist and we are more than a bit excited to welcome Da Lata.
The brainchild of Chris Franck and Patrick Forge the band has blazed a trail for the progressive fusion of Afro/Brazilian rhythms with a contemporary dance floor sensibility since their debut release in 1997, a version of Edu Lobo’s classic “Ponteio” for Far Out Recordings.
Since then they’ve released numerous singles, three albums ‘Songs From The Tin’ in 1998, ‘Serious’ in 2003, and 2013’s ‘Fabiola’, as well as remixing, producing and writing for other artists including Vieux Farka Toure, Africa Express, George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, to name but a few. The band has also toured extensively across the globe.
With a new album, produced by Chris Franck and recorded at Ernie McKone’s Boogie Back Studios on the way they shared its first taste with a three track EP that pays homage to the West African cultures that have profoundly influenced the band’s 25 year history, and features a remix by broken beat pioneers NameBrandSound (IG Culture and Alex Phountzi).
Take a listen to ‘Dakar’ a lovely mid tempo groover lifted from the EP here.
Curated by Franck the playlist includes everything from Chris Bowden, Grace Jones, BADBADNOTGOOD, Thundercat, The Roots, Anderson .Paak, Gil Evans, Sons Of Kemet and many other ear tingling delights.
Grab your favourite snack, sit back, relax and enjoy the playlist below.
