Between The Cracks: 5 New Releases You May Have Missed

Between The Cracks: 5 new albums worth your attention.

With so much good music coming through thick and fast, it’s easy for brand-new music to drop online and go overlooked. To help prevent this, we’ve picked five new releases you may have missed — stream music from Signe, Wolf Müller meets the Nile Project, Prins Thomas, Hampshire and Foat and Quelle Chris. If you like what you hear, hit the links and support the artists.

Signe – To Sappho

Signe’s first full-length album honours the work of Greek poet Sappho. Consisting of Riikka Keränen, Selma Savoilainen, Josefiina Vannesluoma and Kaisa Mäensivu, who also plays the double bass this female vocal quartet from Finland will stun you from start to finish with their gorgeously textured array of harmonies. Recorded at Finnvox studio To Sappho brilliantly blends jazz, blues, pop and folk with their delightful vocal harmonies. The production on To Sappho is unfussy leaving the listener to tune into their stunning voices that demand your attention from the moment you press play.

Wolf Muller meets the Nile Project – Wolf Muller meets the Nile Project

Jan Schulte (aka Wolf Muller) teams up with the Nile Project for cross-border collaboration. Hypnotic percussion, Nyatiti experiments and Nubian vocal traditions combine with drum machines and analogue synth textures all come to the fore on this brilliant EP. This five track release is definitely worth checking out…

Prins Thomas – Ambitions

Prins Thomas recently released his sixth album and his second solo album for Smalltown Supersound (plus two duo albums with Bjørn Torske and Bugge Wesseltoft). ‘Ambitions’ is an album comprised of ideas and sketches created over two years in various locations and environments, from San Francisco to Osaka, as well as on a plane from Miami to Chicago just to name a few. From the delectably sweet melodies of ‘Feel A Love’ to the prog-disco grooves of standout track ‘Urmannen’ everything just sounds so good. Six albums in and Thomas just seems to be getting better and better with every release.

Hampshire & Foat – Saint Lawrence

It’s always a good day when Warren Hampshire and Greg Foat unveil a new LP. Recorded over two days in two churches on the south coast of the Isle of Wight back in 2017 ‘Saint Lawrence’ is another gorgeous collection from the pair. With the help of longtime musical partners, Phil Achille and Eric Young, and a cadre of local musicians and friends, the duo travels between ambient, jazz, and folk, in the most elegant way. There’s just something about the pair’s music that manages to stop you dead in your tracks and make you sit and listen.

Quelle Chris – Guns

Guns, the new album from rapper and producer Quelle Chris, is a careful study of all these questions, an urgent record for urgent times. With Guns Quelle has delivered perhaps the most pointed, most personal, and all-together perfectly crafted album of his career. This is Quelle Chris at his very best and Guns is by far one of the best albums we’ve heard so far this year.
