Following on from his impressive 2016 live album recorded at famed Los Angeles jazz spot Blue Whale, percussionist Myele Manzanza revisits that release with two tracks from the session.
The two track 12″ features Mark de Clive-Lowe on keyboards and piano and Scott Maynard on acoustic bass. Released on Theo Parrish’s Sound Signature imprint the record finds the trio in fine form crafting a pulsating jazz number on one side, and a dazzling percussive jazz house jam on the flip.
Speaking about the opening track, Manzanza explains “I recall listening to “Love Is War For Miles” while drifting off to sleep one night, and hearing how the different loops and layers morphed in and out of each other, and almost had an out-of-body experience. I recognised that the piece that Mr Parrish put together would make for excellent raw material to improvise with, particularly with Mark de Clive-Lowe who’s knowledge and deep roots of both the jazz idiom and dance/electronic music is second to none.”
