Trumpeter Nick Walters is gearing up for the release of a mini-album called ‘Awakening’, set to drop on January 25th via 22a.
The new four-track project follows his work with Anton Hunter and Nim Sadot earlier this year, as well as last years Ruby Rushton records Trudi’s Songbook: Volume One and Trudi’s Songbook: Volume Two.
Album Of The Week: Ruby Rushton – Trudi’s Songbook: Volume Two
The Paradox Ensemble’s 13-member band includes the likes of Ed ‘Tenderlonious’ Cawthorne on tenor sax and flute, Aidan Shepherd on accordion and synth, Sam Healey on Alto Sax, and Walters on trumpet and synths.
The album comes five years after the 2013 debut release entitled ‘Entanglement’ and finds the collective skillfully dabbling with electronic sounds, eastern jazz moods with West African rhythms.
Our first taste of the forthcoming record comes in the form of ‘Dear Old Thing’ a tribute to beloved cricket commentator Henry Blofeld, “dear old thing” was his catchphrase.
The musical inspiration is channelled from Eric Dolphy via a beautiful flute solo from Cawthrone and an excellent solo from Walters.
Get excited folks…
