Between The Cracks: 5 New Releases You Need To Hear

Twistedsoul - Between The Cracks

With so much good music coming through thick and fast, it’s easy for brand-new music to drop online and go overlooked. To help prevent this, we’ve picked five albums you may have missed, but definitely, need to hear. Stream music from Yazmin Lacey, Jenny Penkin, Dntel, Yialmelic Frequencies and Tirzah. If you like what you hear, support the artists.

Yazmin Lacey – When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees

When The Sun Dips 90 Degrees is the second EP from Nottingham-based singer/songwriter Yazmin Lacey. Building upon the success of her Black Moon EP, Lacey returns with yet another glorious set of songs that fuse neo-soul and jazz with her soulful vocal intonations. Give her a listen, and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Jenny Penkin – Him, on the other hand

After captivating us with her single ‘Born Last Night’ a few weeks back, Jenny Penkin returns to the site with her new EP, Him, on the other hand. The six-track EP is a journey through R&B, nu-jazz, and neo-soul with songs that drip with love and self-acceptance. Check her out and support.

Dntel – Hate in my Heart

Veteran L.A. electronic producer Jimmy Tamborello returns as Dntel presenting ten compositions performed live in his living room in 2017 with a Buchla Music Easel and some pedals, then edited. Hate In My Heart seeks hope across its 41 minutes of raw experimental electronic ambience.

Yialmelic Frequencies – Yililok

The latest EP from Starseed Diva Dompé aka Yialmelic Frequencies serves up another batch of alien-ambient music created at dublab for her monthly guided-meditation radio show ‘Yialmelic Transmissions’. Always innovative and never sitting in a single genre Yialmelic Frequencies continues to push forward as ever.

Tirzah – Devotion

Since Tizrah Mastin burst onto the scene with her debut EP for the Greco-Roman label in 2013, we’ve come to expect nothing but brilliance. This debut album, Devotion, lives up to that expectation. Co-written and produced by long-term collaborator Mica Levi, you’ll find yourself sinking away to the intimate, downtempo love-songs laced with romance and lust, melancholy and desire. A total triumph, you need to hear this!
