We haven’t heard much from Yussef Dayes regarding recording output, but then again, after his incredible collaboration in 2016 with Kamaal Williams which saw their album Black Focus receive worldwide recognition, the break was well and truly deserved.

Stepping into a fresh chapter after the break up of Yussef Kamaal we’re told that his new output represents “not only a new beginning but what comes out of being able to live your own vision as a musician.”

His first solo effect titled ‘Love Is The Message’ finds Dayes teaming up with pianist Alfa Mist and guitarist Mansur Brown. The track is the first of two upcoming releases created during a jam session with Alfa Mist.

At over seven minutes long, the track is a blissfully accomplished affair which twists and turns from cinematic and mellow to energetic and dynamic and back again.

The song draws on inspirations from a recent trip to São Paulo and Salvador in Brazil, “being in Brazil with the colours, people and life then coming back to London in the winter, I was just trying to keep that energy going,” says Dayes. “It was inspiring to be out in Brazil, sitting in treehouses and playing drums. Music and spirituality are linked and have a strong bond, it has a healing power.”
